Great Roles
1. Marlon
Brando
Turned down the role of Frankie, the musician-junkie, in
The
Man With The Golden Arm
(1955). Frank Sinatra got the part and re-established his
career with an electrifying performance.
2. James
Cagney
Turned down the role of Alfred P. Doolittle in
My
Fair Lady
(1964).
3. Sean
Connery
Long a fan-favourite to play Gandalf, the venerable wizard
from Tolkien's Lord
Of The Rings, the
star turned the role down because the did not want to spend
18 months filming in New Zealand.

Turned down the role of Scarlett O'Hara in Gone
With The Wind.

A huge screw up by both of them. Orion Pictures acquired the
film rights to Silence
Of The Lambs in
1988 because Gene Hackman had expressed an interest in
directing and writing the screenplay for it. He would also
star as serial killer Hannibal Lecter. By mid-1989, Hackman
had dropped out of the project. Jonathan Demme took over as
director and offered the female lead of FBI
agent-in-training Clarice Starling to Michelle Pfiffer but
she felt the film was too 'dark' and decided not to be in
it.

Madsen
Turned down the role of Vincent Vega in Pulp
Fiction.
9. Robert
Redford
Turned down the role of Ben Braddock in The
Graduate
(1967).
