an impressive cast including Michael Caine and is
technically good for the time as it was produiced by the
Bond team.

2. Schindler's List
A moving and inspiring Steven Spielberg adaptation of the
best selling book by Thomas Keneally. Based on true events
in Poland during the Second World War, it charts the
attempts of anlikely hero Oskar Schindler as he saves over
1000 Jews from certain death. The film is brilliantly acted
by Ralph Fiennes, Liam Neeson and Ben Kingsley. It was
nominated for 12 academy awards and won seven.

3. Captain Corelli's
Mandolin
A war film that chicks will love. Shows you're sensitive but
you still get to watch a war film. Stars Nicolas Cage and
Penelope Cruz who actually have some chemistry, as Nic Cage
is like a dead fish in most films this is quite impressive.
Unusually for a War film, is set in Greece.

4. The Great Escape
OK so we're predictable but what is there not to like? Steve
McQueen on a motorcycle, a blind forger, foiled escape
attempts. I defy anyone not to like this film.

5. Saving Private Ryan
An amazing cast, beautifully acted but will perhaps always
be best remembered for the opening 20 minutes. Veterans have
stated that the effcts were the closest anyone has ever come
to recreating the horror of the D day landings. Although the
premise of the film is a bit flawed, a mission to save
someone because his brothers have died in combat, the
emphasis of the film is on bonding and sacrifice. A must
see.

6. Das Boot
The story of a German U Boat and it's crew. Extremely
atmospheric but beware it's in German with English subtitles
so if that's not your bag - unlucky!

7. Cross Of Iron
Takes on the conflict from the German soldiers based on the
bitter Eastern front. Is based towards the end of the war
and both intense and thought provoking.

8. The Dirty Dozen
Lee Marvin stars as the army major who has to pull 12
convicts and misfits into an elite fighting squad - though I
never could figure out why it's definately exciting. This
film is not to be confused with the sequels which are, to be
honest, crap.

9. Memphis Belle
A film you either love or hate. It could be argued it was
exciting, edge of your seat stuff with loveable characters
that you begin to care about. It could also be argued that
poking sticks in your eyes would be more fun. Watch it and
see.
