People Who Worked In Bed
1.
Winston Churchill
(1874-1965).
Winston Churchill used to dictate letters and go through
boxes of official state papers while in bed. He also wrote
most of The Second World War and History Of The English
Speaking Peoples in bed despite having written other books
whilst standing.
2. Robert Louis
Stevenson (1850-94).
Due to tuberculosis Stevenson spent much of his time in bed
and wrote most of Kidnapped and A Child's Garden of Verses
whilst there. He also dreamt the basis of Dr Jekyll and Mr
Hyde.
3. Leonardo
Da Vinci (1452-1519).
According to his notebooks Leonardo Da Vinci
spent some time "in bed in the dark to go over again in the
imagination the main outlines of the form previously
studied".
4. Hugh
Hefner (1926-).
Hugh Hefner controlled the Playboy empire from
his bed in Chicago and would regularly stay awake for 60
hours fuelled by Pepsi and amphetamines.
5. Edith Wharton
(1862-1937).
The
Pulitzer Prize winning author used to spend her mornings
writing from the comfort of her bed.
6. Mamie Eisenhower
(1896-1979).
Mamie
Eisenhower did not have an office in the White House as she
dictated letters, paid bills, signed letters and held
conferences from the comfort of her bed.
7. Cardinal
De Richelieu (1583-1642).
Cardinal De Richelieu spent the last year of
his life in bed due to his rapidly deteriorating health -
this did not prevent him from working and directing the
secret police. He also traveled, with his servants carrying
his bed.

Mark
Twain (1835-1910).
Twain wrote large portions oF Huckleberry Finn, A
Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court and The Adventures
of Tom Sawyer from his bed.
9. Mae West
(1892-1980).
Mae West wrote several screen plays and her
autobiography whilst in bed and joked that "Everybody knows
I do my best work in bed."
