1.
CN Tower - Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
|
|
The
CN Tower attracts over two million visitors to
Toronto each year with it's biggest claim being
that of the tallest building in the world. It is
553.33 metres tall and the world's tallest
freestanding structure on land. The CN stands for
Canada's National.

2.
Statue of Liberty - New York, United States of
America.
|
|
One
of the most instantly recognisable buildings in the
world. Built from 1884 to 1886 it is a lot more
than just a pretty building. The seven points of
the crown represent the seven seas, the 25 windows
represent the 25 gemstones found in the earth and
the tablet held in her left hand reads July 4th,
1776.

3.
Taj Mahal - Agra, India.
|
|
Built
in 1630 the Taj Mahal was to honour the fifth
Muslim Mogul emperor's late wife.

|
4.
St. Basil's Cathedral - Moscow, Russia.
|
|
One
of the most beautiful buildings ever designed yet
is still confused by many with the Kremlin due to
their proximity. It was commissioned by Ivan the
terrible in 1555 and the initial concept was to
build a cluster of chapels, one dedicated to each
of the saints on whose feast day the tsar had won a
battle. However a central tower was added to unify
the chapels into a single cathedral. It's official
name is The Cathedral of Intercession of the Virgin
on the Moat.

5.
The Cake House.
|
|
Ok,
perhaps only a fantasy but who doesn't think the
house in the Hansel and Gretel fairy tale is cool.
A house made entirely from cake with windows of
clear sugar......it doesn't get much better!

|
6.
The Sistene Chapel - Vatican City, Vatican City.
|
|
Externally
you could be forgiven for thinking it was one of
the most boring buildings in the world but
internally it is beautiful. It's most famous
feature is it's elaborately painted ceiling,
painted by Michelangelo himself over a four year
period.

7.
The Great Pyramid of Giza - Giza,
Egypt.
|
|
It
is one of the Seven Wonders of the World, and the
only one of the seven to survive into modern times.
The Great Pyramid of Giza is the largest in Egypt
and one of the largest in the world. Until Lincoln
Cathedral was built in 1300, it was the tallest
building in the world with a base is over 13 acres
in area. Built as burial grounds for Pharoahs they
are slightly more impressive than a headstone.

|
8.
Burj Al Arab - Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
|
|
However,
The Rose Tower, also in Dubai, may be about to take
away it's title as the tallest building used
exclusively as a hotel but standing at 321 metres
tall and looking the way it does, we doubt the
owners care.

|
9.The
Colosseum - Rome, Italy.
|
|
The
largest elliptical amphitheatre ever built by the
Roman Empire. Took 10 years to build, could seat
50,000 and was used for over 500 years. This
theatre saw the deaths of thousands of men in
Gladiator battles.
